My Icon, My Fashion Hero, My Love For Her.

The 'Pop-Over' Dress

I can't believe it's been three months since I last wrote a blog post. This wasn't intentional, as my goal has always been to write one each month. In fact, my broader aim was to transition from Instagram to a blog to have more freedom to write as I learned, without being restricted by character limits, space, or any other constraints imposed by the platform. You can see my first blog post here.

Claire McCardell has always been my inspiration. While I admire Christian Dior's legacy, I find a deeper connection with her. Perhaps there's a better word for this connection, but it eludes me at the moment.

During my time at fashion design school, I delved deeper into her work. The more I learned, the more enamored and devoted I became, much like with Isabel Toledo. Both women are icons who forged their own paths, defining fashion on their terms.

I incorporated Claire's approach and designs into my final collection at school, and the next pieces for JEK New York also reflect her influence. And will continue to.

In early August, I had the opportunity to see her 'pop-over' dress at the New York Historical Society. It did not disappoint, even though I was expecting something more or different. I'm glad I seized the opportunity to visit, as I discovered so much more during my time there.

I love how Claire's designs are simple yet elegant, structured yet reformed. The construction is unmatched. On a personal level, and without getting ahead of myself, there are many similarities between our lives and lifestyles. Perhaps that deserves a blog post of its own as I find my rhythm here.

Pardon me if there has a been a break in writing, as I have found a great love, and learning to balance. I'm not going anywhere with this brand, it's tried and true, and will forever be a part of me, and hopefully you.
